Here’s how the journey will go:
Part 1: Weeks 1 – 3
Getting Loose!
The first weeks will see you set up your home print studio and set yourself free of rules as we let the mark making juices flow with hand monoprint.
Similar to gel plate printing, this expressive and layered approach to making art will loosen your practice, allow you to start enjoying and playing with constraints, and elevate some of your prints to gestural, painterly, finished pieces as well as produce lots of beautiful drifts of colour and texture ready for use in Parts 2 and 3.
Part 2: Weeks 4 – 7
Plating Up!
Where we start to step beyond the playful, and print with collograph, lino and drypoint plates by hand. Combining the beautiful marks these plates can make with your spontaneous monoprint skills and papers from the previous module, you will step into your printmaking stride and produce stunning works on paper.
You’ll start to see how many variables there are within the plate-making and print-making processes – seriously, you could spend a loooong time playing with these processes and skills.
Part 3: Week 8
Paper Wings – Let’s Fly!
This last week will take you from touching up etchings to completely transforming a print, from finishing prints ready to be framed to integrating print into your practice. You’ll discover that making a print is just the beginning.
I say keep everything you make- in this week you’ll see why, there are so many possibilities for your prints (even the ones you don’t like!)

What do people say about my teaching?
“I love a course that gives you ideas and techniques which seem to merge almost seamlessly into your own practice. A course that challenges you to take your work further. A course that provides techniques which on the surface seem simple but which can be combined in so many ways they create something complex.”
“The course has given me an enormous amount. It’s set me up with a studio, that now the world’s my oyster. I have so much more confidence about using materials.“
“Thank you for the excellent online monoprint course – the delivery and content of each session was spot-on, relaxing to watch and print along with.”
“I really enjoyed your course. It provided the structure I needed to think about printmaking in a concentrated manner, and I am delighted to have learned how to make monoprints. The quality of line is exactly what I was looking for.”
“Just wanted to drop you a line to say how much I value your monoprint workshop and your teaching. You have a lovely, reassuring and informative approach which makes it a delight to learn from you, nicely balanced by your encouragement to explore one’s own unique way.”
“I really feel I have a kind of system now, a process I can go through and apply when I have an idea or new materials I want to try out. I learned so much from it.”
Who is your tutor?
I’m an Artist with over 20 years of home hand-printing experience as well as extensive print studio experience.
I’ve always loved the marks and textures of printmaking, the smell of ink gives me a little thrill – and the best part (that printmakers like to keep to themselves) – the reveal as you peel your paper away from your surface!
I’m a firm believer in DIY and the low-tech, and I want to guide you to push your boundaries, find creative flow, and create art that you love.
What do I need to take part?
Though there a few things you may need to buy as you progress through the course, it’s likely that you’ll already have most things if you make art. You will need a roller/brayer to start the course – these are readily available in most art shops (there are stockist ideas on the materials list too). In some of the later modules you’ll need oil-based printing ink for the best results – I’ll give you advance warning for that. There are usually ways to improvise or find things at home that will work too- I always let you know when you can do that.
